Attested: Volitanio at position 192 in the Ravenna Cosmography
Where: Probably at Mumrills NS91857943 near Falkirk, the largest fort on the Antonine Wall.
Name Origin: Latin volito ‘to fly to and fro’ could fit a cavalry base. Or else Volitanio could be compounded from vallum plus PIE *ten- ‘to stretch’ to mean something like ‘wall extension’.
Name Origin: VAL in an inscription found here is usually interpreted as short for Valerius, but might refer to vallum.
