Where: Modern Alet next to St Malo, Brittany, at the mouth of the river Rance.
Name Origin: Possibly beginning like PIE *reig- ‘to reach, to stretch out’ and ending with -ca ‘opening’, from PIE *ghai- ‘to gape’.
Notes: Other early names that end in -ca- include Isca, Leuca, Evidensca, and Οβοκα (Liffey at Dublin).
